I am so grateful for this perspective, it means a lot, and is more consistent with what I have been learning about God’s loving nature. God did not let the product of David’s sin live, and He rewarded Bathsheba for her faithful behavior by making her firstborn son, Solomon, the next king of Israel.

It just seems to me that today’s commentary was spoken from our current cultures, worldview, and not the ancient worldview

I think much, was inferred into Bathsheba’s situation. The Bible does not say that David forced himself on her and that she was sexually assaulted. In truth, we have no idea because the Bible did not say and I feel like it would have said more on that subject if it had been that way. I just think we don’t understand that ancient culture, and we should not speculate on things we don’t know enough about. We have no idea what was in Bathsheba’s heart during that time.

It just occurred to me that another consequence of David’s sin is that it could have made Joab lose trust in and respect for David. That might have have contributed to Joab’s eventual fall from grace. It also says other men were killed when Joab had his army approach to closely to the city wall. David’s terrible choice had repercussions for a lot of people.
