Great podcast! The reason for Matthew’s use of the number 14 is to relate Jesus to David. In Jewish numerology (gematria) the number 4 is associated with the letter D while the number 6 is associated with the letter V. David’s name in Hebrew is Dvd, which is 4-6-4, which equals 14. Matthew’s genealogy triples down on emphasizing Jesus as the messiah coming from the house of David.
